Dubai-based Nepali bus driver gives up home trip to support flood victims

## Nepali Expat's Generous Gesture

Shanti Kumari Bhandari, a 43-year-old Nepali expatriate working as a bus driver in Dubai, has chosen to forgo her planned trip to Nepal. Instead, she has donated the funds she saved for her airfare to assist those affected by severe flooding in Nepal. Bhandari had intended to visit her home country during the important festivals of Dashain and Tihar, which she hasn't celebrated in Nepal since 2021.

## Emotional Impact and Decision

Moved by the devastation she saw in news reports, Bhandari decided to contribute to the Nepal Prime Minister’s relief fund. She expressed her deep sorrow over the loss of lives, homes, and livelihoods due to the floods, stating that she couldn't just watch the suffering from afar.

## Family Support

Bhandari's 14-year-old son also showed his support by deciding to donate his saved pocket money to the relief efforts. He managed to save NPR 1,200 by using public transport and cutting down on his lunch expenses.

## Gratitude to the UAE

Having lived in the UAE for 11 years, Bhandari expressed her gratitude to the country for its support to Nepal during this crisis. Despite the personal sacrifice of delaying her trip, she remains committed to helping her fellow Nepalis in need.
