## Meta's New AI Assistant

Meta has launched a new AI assistant named Muse, designed to handle everyday tasks such as sending emails, booking travel, and making purchases. This AI aims to work autonomously, even when users are not actively engaging with it.

## Features and Functionality

Muse can operate independently, managing tasks through its own browser and virtual computer. It can write code, create tools, and continue working after the app is closed. Muse is capable of remembering details from past interactions, which allows it to personalize its assistance, such as turning saved recipes into grocery lists or suggesting dinner menus.

## Privacy and Security Concerns

Meta has implemented security measures to protect user data, including a dedicated virtual machine called Muse Secure VM. A separate AI system, Sentinel, oversees Muse's access to external data. Users must grant permission for Muse to access services like email and calendars, and the AI cannot directly view passwords or payment information.

## Challenges and Trust Issues

Despite these safeguards, internal testing revealed some privacy issues, including unauthorized data uploads. Meta has faced scrutiny over data handling in the past, which poses a challenge in gaining user trust for Muse.

## Availability and Pricing

Muse is currently available in the US on iOS, Android, the web, and WhatsApp. While most features are free, there are paid tiers offering additional capabilities at $20 and $100 per month. Meta has not announced a launch date for other regions.
