## Investigation Launched
The Philippines is conducting an investigation into the compliance of safety regulations following an attack on a Saudi-flagged oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The incident, which occurred on August 31, resulted in the deaths of two Filipino seafarers. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is examining whether the shipowner and manning agency adhered to safety protocols for deploying Filipino crew in high-risk areas.
## Survivors Return Home
Fourteen Filipino crew members who survived the attack have safely returned to the Philippines. They arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on September 8, where they were received by officials from the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). The DMW is also working to repatriate the remains of the deceased seafarers.
## Safety Measures Under Review
DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac stated that the investigation will assess if the crew was provided with safe transit and if appropriate measures were taken to avoid high-risk zones. The review will also determine whether the seafarers were given the option to refuse to sail and if necessary risk assessments were conducted prior to deployment.
## Monitoring Other Filipino Crews
The Philippines is also monitoring the safety of 82 Filipino seafarers aboard four vessels in the Black Sea. The DMW has confirmed that all crew members are safe, with some having been relocated to safer areas.
## Deployment Restrictions
The DMW has reiterated a ban on deploying Filipino seafarers to vessels operating in the Northern Black Sea due to ongoing conflicts. The department continues to coordinate with other government agencies to assess security conditions in the Strait of Hormuz and other volatile regions.
