Why this World Cup winner named his dog ‘Anfield’ before scoring there again

## A Memorable Night at Anfield

Marcos Llorente, a World Cup winner with Atletico Madrid, has a special connection with Liverpool's Anfield Stadium. Despite Atletico's 2-1 loss to Liverpool in their recent UEFA Champions League match, Llorente's performance stood out. He scored Atletico's opening goal, marking his fifth Champions League goal at Anfield, surpassing Karim Benzema's record of four.

## The 2020 Breakthrough

Llorente's affinity for Anfield began in 2020 during a Champions League last-16 tie. Atletico faced a strong Liverpool team, fresh off a historic comeback against Barcelona. Llorente came off the bench and scored twice in extra time, overturning Liverpool's lead and sending Atletico through.

## Anfield the Dog

Following his 2020 heroics, Llorente named his new dog "Anfield" during Spain's COVID-19 lockdown, a nod to the stadium where he shone. This playful tribute highlighted his fondness for the venue.

## A Return to Form

Five years later, Llorente returned to Anfield and scored twice again, although Atletico narrowly lost 3-2. His latest goal in the recent match further cemented his legacy at the stadium, making him the player with the most Champions League goals at Anfield.

Llorente's connection with Anfield remains strong, as he continues to create memorable moments at this iconic venue.
