UAE records 1,026 organ transplants in 30 months, deceased donations rise 35%

## Significant Increase in Organ Donations

The United Arab Emirates has successfully conducted 1,026 organ transplants from the beginning of 2024 to mid-2026. This achievement includes a notable 35% rise in deceased organ donations between 2024 and 2025, with donor numbers increasing from 110 to 149.

## Transplantation Growth

In 2024, the UAE performed 352 transplants, which increased to 452 in 2025. By the first half of 2026, an additional 222 transplants were completed. These procedures included vital organs such as kidneys, livers, hearts, and lungs.

## Expanding Healthcare Infrastructure

The UAE's organ transplant program is rapidly expanding, supported by government initiatives and public engagement. Currently, nine hospitals offer kidney transplants, five provide liver transplants, and one hospital is equipped for multi-organ transplants.

## Regional and International Cooperation

The UAE is enhancing regional cooperation, notably with Kuwait, to provide treatment locally rather than abroad. This aligns with the World Health Organization's call for a coordinated global strategy on organ donation and transplantation.

## Comprehensive Support System

The UAE's health insurance system supports organ donation and transplantation, aiming to empower individuals and families to donate and save lives. The national program collaborates with the National Centre for Donation and Transplantation to share expertise and responsibilities.
