UAE exporters move closer to German risk cover for overseas projects

## New Partnership for Exporters

UAE exporters are set to benefit from a new collaboration between Etihad Credit Insurance (ECI) and Germany's Euler Hermes. The two entities have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a framework for long-term cooperation on international export and infrastructure projects.

## Risk-Sharing Framework

The agreement aims to create a permanent structure for sharing export credit risks in projects involving suppliers from both the UAE and Germany. This initiative follows Germany's Export Credit Guarantee Scheme, which covered €1.4 billion in projects across the Gulf in 2025.

## Expanding Market Opportunities

The proposed framework will allow both institutions to assess international projects on a case-by-case basis, considering each entity's product portfolio and risk assessment criteria. This collaboration could also extend to third-country markets where both Emirati and German companies are involved.

## Building on Previous Success

This new agreement builds on a previous reinsurance arrangement between ECI and Euler Hermes for a major infrastructure project in Iraq in 2024. The success of that project provided a model for the current broader cooperation.

## Supporting UAE Export Growth

The partnership is designed to support UAE-based exporters by developing risk-sharing mechanisms, thereby enhancing their access to international markets and contributing to the diversification of the UAE's non-oil exports.
