## Taylor's Historic Achievement

Brendan Taylor of Zimbabwe has set a new benchmark in One-Day International (ODI) cricket by surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's record for the longest career in the format. Taylor achieved this milestone during Zimbabwe's first ODI against Australia at Harare Sports Club, marking 22 years and 146 days since his debut in 2004.

## A Remarkable Career

The 40-year-old wicketkeeper-batter has been a pivotal figure in Zimbabwean cricket, accumulating 6,704 ODI runs from 205 innings. He is just 82 runs shy of Andy Flower's national record of 6,786 runs. Taylor also holds the record for the most ODI centuries by a Zimbabwean, with 11 to his name.

## Challenges and Comebacks

Taylor's career has seen its share of ups and downs. After the 2015 World Cup, he briefly retired to play county cricket in England but returned to the international scene before retiring again in 2021. His career took a controversial turn when he was banned for three and a half years by the ICC in 2022 due to breaches of anti-corruption and anti-doping codes. Despite these challenges, Taylor made a comeback in 2025, aiming to contribute to Zimbabwe's campaign for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
