Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium to honour cricket legends with named stands and gates

## Tribute to Cricket Icons

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has decided to honor some of India's cricket legends by naming parts of the Wankhede Stadium after them. This decision was made during a recent MCA Apex Council meeting.

## Recognizing Contributions

A stand at the stadium will be named after Ravi Shastri, a former India cricketer and head coach, who also captained Mumbai in domestic cricket. This move acknowledges Shastri's significant contributions to both Indian and Mumbai cricket.

## Honoring Past Legends

In addition to Shastri, several stadium gates will be named after other cricket icons. Gate No. 3 will honor the late Dilip Sardesai, Gate No. 5 will be named after Diana Edulji, a former captain of the India women's team, and Gate No. 6 will commemorate the late Eknath Solkar, known for his exceptional fielding skills.

## Preserving Legacy

MCA President Ajinkya Naik emphasized that this initiative is a fitting tribute to players who have made lasting impacts on Mumbai and Indian cricket. The association aims to preserve the legacy of these stars while inspiring future generations.
