## Sudden Illness Strikes

A seven-year-old Indian student from Dubai, Ameya Ajith, tragically passed away during a family vacation in Kerala. The young girl was diagnosed with a rare neurological condition known as Febrile Infection-Related Epilepsy Syndrome (FIRES), which affects approximately one in a million children.

## A Healthy Start

Ameya, described by her father as a healthy and active child, showed no prior symptoms before her condition emerged. The family had celebrated her seventh birthday on July 6, just weeks before the onset of her illness.

Her symptoms began with seizures on July 30, leading to her immediate hospitalisation. Despite intensive care and treatment, Ameya succumbed to a cardiac arrest after 45 days in the hospital.

FIRES is a severe form of epilepsy that typically affects children between three and 15 years old. It often begins with a fever or infection, followed by severe, drug-resistant seizures. The condition is extremely rare and difficult to treat, with a significant mortality rate.

Ameya was a student at Shamna Kasim Dance Studio in Dubai. Following her passing, the studio's owner, actress Shamna Kasim, paid a heartfelt tribute to Ameya, describing her as a cherished member of their community. The loss has left a profound impact on her family and those who knew her.
