## Transforming Waste into Building Material

In the UAE, DesertBoard is pioneering a sustainable construction material known as Palm Strand Board (PSB). This innovative product is crafted from pruned palm fronds, which are typically discarded, either burned or buried. By repurposing these fronds, DesertBoard has created a structural board without the need to cut down trees, offering a unique solution in the fight against deforestation.

## Environmental Impact and Production

The production process involves chipping, washing, and compressing the fronds with a zero-formaldehyde adhesive, resulting in a fire-resistant and termite-proof board. DesertBoard's facility can produce enough PSB annually to outfit over 200 structures the size of the Burj Khalifa. Each cubic meter of PSB can sequester up to 401 kg of carbon, significantly reducing the carbon footprint of construction projects.

## Aligning with Sustainability Goals

DesertBoard supports the UAE's sustainability initiatives, including the Net Zero 2050 strategy and various green building codes. However, the company emphasizes the need for stricter enforcement of these codes to ensure widespread adoption of sustainable practices.

## Expanding Influence and Applications

PSB is already being used in major UAE developments, such as Dubai Creek Harbour and Yas Acres. DesertBoard has also contributed to humanitarian efforts by providing portable housing units for the Red Crescent. The company is expanding its reach beyond the UAE, with distribution networks in several countries, including Saudi Arabia and Germany.
