## BCCI's 20th IPL Celebration Plans

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is gearing up for a grand celebration of the Indian Premier League's (IPL) 20th edition in 2027. This announcement was made during the BCCI's 95th Annual General Meeting held in Mumbai. The league, which started in 2008, has become a major event in the cricketing world.

## Leadership Continuity

Arun Singh Dhumal and M Khairul Jamal Majumdar have been re-elected to the IPL Governing Council. Dhumal, who has been the chairman since 2022, previously served as the BCCI treasurer. Majumdar represents the Cricket Association of Mizoram and has been part of the council as a representative of state associations.

## IPL's Growth and Achievements

Since its inception, the IPL has expanded from eight to ten teams, with Gujarat Titans and Lucknow Super Giants joining in 2022. The league's commercial value has soared, with media rights for 2023-27 sold for Rs48,390 crore. Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings have each won five titles, the highest in the league's history.

## Historical Highlights

The IPL's first match took place on April 18, 2008, featuring Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Brendon McCullum's explosive 158-run innings set the tone for the league's success. Royal Challengers Bengaluru are the current champions, having won their first title in 2025.
