Dubai sets 3.7 sq m minimum sleeping area for workers

## New Accommodation Standards

Dubai has introduced a regulation mandating a minimum sleeping area of 3.7 square meters per worker in accommodation facilities. This initiative is part of a broader effort by Dubai Municipality to enhance living conditions and infrastructure for workers.

## Comprehensive Survey and Assessment

Over 1,417 worker accommodation buildings have been surveyed to ensure compliance with these standards. The initiative also includes the development of community spaces and recreational facilities, providing between 0.75 and 1.5 square meters of outdoor space per person.

## Strategic Projects and Initiatives

The municipality has completed several strategic projects aimed at upgrading infrastructure and improving the quality of life in workers’ areas. These projects align with Dubai’s Workers’ Accommodation Policy, focusing on creating safer and more sustainable communities.

## Classification and Recognition

As part of the initiative, 19 model accommodations were classified, with seven achieving Silver status, nine Gold, and three Platinum. This classification system is intended to encourage higher standards in worker accommodations.

## Unified Government Database

Dubai Municipality has also established a unified government database to support planning and decision-making in workers’ areas. Field surveys have been conducted to evaluate existing infrastructure and identify areas needing further development.
