## Joint Effort to Combat Haze

Indonesia has accepted Malaysia's offer to assist in fighting wildfires that have been causing hazardous haze across the region. The fires, primarily in Borneo and Sumatra, have affected not only Indonesia but also neighboring countries like Malaysia and Singapore.

## Malaysia's Contribution

Malaysia will deploy aircraft and a team of firefighters to aid Indonesia. Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi confirmed the deployment, which includes a Bombardier aircraft, three helicopters, and 52 personnel. This decision followed discussions between Ahmad and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.

## Regional Impact and Response

The wildfires have been exacerbated by the El Nino climate phenomenon, leading to more severe conditions this year. In addition to Malaysia's support, Japan has also sent over 300 soldiers to assist in Borneo. The fires have burned significant areas, with estimates ranging from over 200,000 to nearly 900,000 hectares affected this year.

Both countries are also focusing on preventive measures to manage future fires and reduce cross-border haze. The collaboration aims to address the environmental challenges that impact multiple nations in the region.
