Ras Al-Khaimah's horse rescuer: How one woman saved over 50 ailing horses and gave them a safe haven

## A Passion for Horses

Yasmin Sayyed, originally from Germany, has dedicated her life to rescuing horses in Ras Al-Khaimah. Her journey began in 2014, and by 2017, she had established the Ride to Rescue Animal Shelter. Over the years, Yasmin has saved more than 50 horses, providing them with a safe and nurturing environment.

## The First Rescue

Salambo, a German horse with motor neurone disease, was Yasmin's first rescue. Despite advice to let him go, Yasmin's determination kept him alive for nearly a decade. This experience set the foundation for her mission to rescue and rehabilitate horses.

## A Growing Mission

The sanctuary now houses 35 horses, along with four donkeys and over 60 cats. Yasmin's approach is unique; she believes the horses find her rather than the other way around. Her commitment to each animal is evident in the personalized care she provides.

## Financial Challenges

Running the sanctuary is costly, requiring around Dh3,000 daily. Yasmin relies on donations and creative initiatives, such as fitness sessions with horses, to sustain the operation.

## A Unique Approach to Riding

Yasmin's philosophy extends to teaching riding. She emphasizes understanding and bonding with the horses over traditional riding techniques. Her students learn to care for the horses, fostering a deeper connection.

## A Place of Hope

Yasmin's sanctuary offers a second chance to horses that have been abandoned or can no longer serve their previous purposes. Here, they find a home where they are valued for their individuality and spirit.
