## Strengthening Bilateral Ties

Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, visited Quito, Ecuador, where he was received with an official ceremony at Carondelet Palace. During his visit, he met with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa to discuss enhancing the partnership between the UAE and Ecuador.

## Key Agreements Announced

The meeting culminated in the announcement of a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two nations. This agreement aims to reduce trade barriers and foster cooperation in sectors such as food security, renewable energy, and advanced technology. Additionally, a cooperation agreement was signed between the UAE Ministry of Investment and Ecuador’s Ministry of Production to explore investment opportunities.

## Defense and Anti-Corruption Initiatives

A memorandum of understanding was also signed between EDGE Group and Ecuador’s Ministry of National Defence, focusing on security infrastructure improvements valued at US$250 million. Another agreement was made to enhance cooperation in combating corruption, promoting governance and transparency.

## Economic Impact and Future Prospects

The UAE is a significant trading partner for Ecuador in the Arab region, with non-oil trade reaching approximately US$373.6 million in 2025. The CEPA is expected to further boost economic ties and open new avenues for collaboration. Ecuador is the fourth Latin American country to sign such an agreement with the UAE, following Costa Rica, Chile, and Colombia. Negotiations with Peru are also underway, highlighting the UAE's commitment to expanding its trade network in South America.
