Israel faces new era of sinking US support after election

## Shifting US-Israel Relations

Following recent elections, Israel is experiencing a shift in its relationship with the United States. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's alliance with former US President Donald Trump has led to a new era of diplomatic challenges. The recent US elections saw a Democratic-led Congress, which is expected to adopt a tougher stance on Israel, particularly concerning issues like Iran and the West Bank.

## Impact of US Political Changes

The change in US political leadership has raised concerns in Israel about its future support from the US. Netanyahu's campaign, which prominently featured his ties with Trump, now faces scrutiny as the US political climate shifts. Trump has agreed with Netanyahu to end the $3.8 billion annual US military aid to Israel, reflecting the changing mood in Washington.

## Domestic and International Reactions

Within Israel, opposition leader Gadi Eisenkot is positioning himself as someone who can mend US-Israel relations. He emphasizes liberal values and aims to work constructively with the US. Meanwhile, the new US Congress includes progressive voices critical of Israel's actions in Gaza, further complicating the diplomatic landscape.

## Strategic Adjustments

Without US military aid, Israel may need to rely more on its own defense capabilities, potentially increasing the risk of civilian casualties in conflicts. This situation could force Israel to make difficult financial decisions, such as taking loans or raising taxes, to maintain its defense posture.

## Future Prospects

Eisenkot is advocating for a focus on regional stability and strategic agreements, signaling a potential shift in Israel's approach to its relationship with the US. As Israel navigates these changes, it faces the challenge of balancing domestic support with international diplomatic realities.
