Philippines thanks UAE as first batch of overseas Filipinos safely returns

## Safe Return of Filipinos

On March 5, 2026, 299 Filipinos returned safely to Manila from Dubai amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has expressed its gratitude to the UAE and other host countries for their support in ensuring the safety of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

## UAE's Role Acknowledged

DMW Secretary Hans Cacdac thanked the UAE government and local authorities in Dubai for their assistance. The group traveled on Emirates flight 336 to Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Among the returnees were 23 OFWs and two children, some of whom returned for safety reasons or after completing their work contracts.

## Government Support

Upon arrival, the returnees were welcomed by Cacdac, who assured them of the Philippine government's continued support. They received financial aid from the DMW's AKSYON Fund, temporary accommodation, and transportation from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA). Medical and psychosocial support were also provided by the Department of Health and the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

## Ongoing Assistance

The DMW and OWWA will continue to coordinate with other agencies to support Filipinos affected by the regional situation. Authorities remain prepared to offer on-the-ground support and repatriation assistance as needed.
