## Complex Surgery in Abu Dhabi
A team of surgeons in Abu Dhabi has successfully removed a rare cancerous tumor weighing 4.4 kilograms from a 49-year-old patient. The tumor, which measured 36 centimeters, was located in the patient's abdomen and required a six-hour operation at NMC Royal Hospital in Khalifa City.
## Surgical Challenges
The procedure was particularly challenging due to the tumor's size and its proximity to major blood vessels and vital organs. The surgical team had to remove the patient's right kidney, adrenal gland, part of the diaphragm, and the right 12th rib to ensure all cancerous tissue was excised.
## Rare Cancer Type
This type of cancer is extremely rare, affecting about one in two million people annually. Although such tumors typically develop in the chest, this case was unusual as the tumor extended into the abdominal cavity, displacing organs like the liver, stomach, and intestines.
## Successful Outcome
Despite the complexity and potential for severe bleeding, the operation was completed with minimal blood loss and no need for a transfusion. The surgical team, led by Dr. Hassan Elberm, had prepared extensively to manage any complications, ensuring a successful outcome for the patient.
