## Early Life and Inspiration
Debolina Das, originally from Howrah, Bengal, found her life's direction altered at the age of twelve following her father's passing. His wish for her to represent India in table tennis became a driving force in her life. Despite limited resources in her hometown, Das's determination led her to compete in district and state tournaments, eventually reaching national and international levels.
## International Experience
Competing globally, Das realized that the key difference between small-town athletes and international competitors was mindset, not location. Her confidence grew not from winning trophies but through perseverance, traveling alone for tournaments, and overcoming setbacks.
## Transition to Mentorship
Currently, Das balances her competitive career with mentoring roles. She represents Sharjah Women’s Club in the UAE Women’s Table Tennis League and is involved in developing training programs in Dubai and Sharjah. Her decision to mentor while still competing stems from a belief that her experiences can significantly impact young athletes.
## Empowering Future Generations
Das's mission focuses on empowering girls through sport. Her academies aim to create supportive environments where young athletes feel confident and respected. She is particularly committed to helping underprivileged girls from her hometown pursue sports by providing resources and support.
## Overcoming Barriers
Despite progress, Das notes that societal perceptions of women in sports remain a challenge. She highlights the UAE as an example of how institutional support can change these perceptions, offering young athletes visible role models in competitive and leadership roles.
## Message to Young Girls
On International Women’s Day, Das encourages young girls to not let their beginnings define their limits. She advises them to start where they are, develop their skills, and remain disciplined, echoing the journey she began in Howrah.
