## Complex Tumor Surgery at American Hospital Dubai

American Hospital Dubai recently achieved a significant milestone by performing a rare and intricate surgical procedure on a female patient with an odontogenic myxoma, a benign jaw tumor. This surgery, the first of its kind at the hospital, highlights its commitment to advanced medical care and innovation.

## Patient's Medical Journey

The patient was initially treated in the UK in 2000, where the tumor was excised. However, a routine dental check-up years later revealed unusual jawbone features, prompting further evaluation at American Hospital Dubai. Comprehensive imaging and biopsy confirmed a large recurrent tumor in the left mandible.

## Surgical Expertise and Technology

Dr. Hani Nachawati, a seasoned Consultant Oral Surgeon, led the procedure, opting for a left hemimandibulectomy while preserving the mandibular condyle. This complex surgery involved removing part of the jaw and reconstructing it using advanced 3D CAD/CAM technology and microvascular techniques, specifically a fibular free flap.

## Multidisciplinary Team Effort

The 12-hour surgery was a collaborative effort involving Dr. Nachawati, ENT surgeon Dr. Dev S. Roy, and plastic surgeons Dr. Luciano Tracia and Dr. Ali, supported by anesthesia and ICU teams. The operation was successful, with the patient achieving excellent functional and aesthetic outcomes and continuing to recover well.
