## Understanding Resignation Rights in the UAE
In the UAE, employers cannot refuse an employee's resignation. According to UAE labour law, both employers and employees have the right to terminate an employment contract. This is outlined in Article 42 of Federal Decree Law No. 33 of 2021, which allows either party to end the contract, provided legal procedures are followed.
## Legal Requirements for Resignation
Employees must submit their resignation through official channels, such as a work email or the company's internal system, to ensure it is documented. This is crucial in case of any disputes or accusations from the employer.
## Notice Period and Legitimate Reasons
Article 43 of the same law requires that the terminating party notify the other in writing and serve the agreed notice period, which must be between 30 and 90 days. The resignation must be for a legitimate reason.
## Prohibition of Coercion
Article 14 of the UAE labour law prohibits employers from using force or threats to compel employees to work against their will. This means employers cannot legally force an employee to continue working after they have resigned.
