## New Regulation for Online Safety

Indonesia has implemented a new regulation prohibiting children under 16 from creating accounts on certain social media platforms. This measure, effective from March 28, 2026, aims to protect young users from online dangers such as cyberbullying, pornography, scams, and digital addiction.

## Implementation and Platforms

The regulation, issued under Ministerial Regulation No. 9 of 2026, will be rolled out in phases. It targets platforms including YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, Threads, X, Bigo Live, and Roblox. The Ministry of Communication and Digital of Indonesia emphasized the importance of safeguarding children in the digital realm.

## Government's Stance

The Indonesian government acknowledges potential challenges for families during the transition but stresses the necessity of the policy. Communications and Digital Minister Meutya Hafid highlighted the government's commitment to prioritizing children's welfare in a digital age, stating that technology should enhance human life without compromising childhood.
