Eid Al Fitr likely on March 20 in UAE, astronomers say

## Astronomical Predictions for Eid

Astronomers from the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology have predicted that Eid Al Fitr will likely be observed on Friday, March 20, 2026, in the UAE. This forecast is based on astronomical calculations indicating that Ramadan 1447 AH will last for 30 days.

## Moon Sighting Challenges

On March 18, the 29th day of Ramadan, the crescent moon is expected to set before sunset, making it invisible in the UAE. Consequently, Ramadan will continue until March 19, completing the month.

## Crescent Visibility

The new moon is anticipated to occur at 4:24 am UAE time on March 19. By sunset, the crescent will be 14 hours old, with an angular separation from the sun of 6.5 degrees. However, the visibility conditions in the UAE are considered unfavorable, making it difficult to spot the crescent even with telescopes.

## Regional Observations

While the crescent may not be visible in the UAE, it could potentially be seen in other Arab and Islamic countries further west, where conditions might be more favorable. As a result, most Islamic countries are expected to celebrate Eid on March 20, though some may wait until March 21, depending on local moon sightings.
