## Moon Sighting Initiative

The UAE Council for Fatwa has called on residents to participate in the sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon on February 17, 2026. The event will be overseen by the Ramadan Crescent Moonsighting Committee, which will convene at the historic Qasr Al Hosn site in Abu Dhabi at 6pm.

## Committee Leadership

The meeting will be chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah, with Dr Omar Habtoor Al Darei also in attendance. The committee's role is to observe and confirm the lunar months, ensuring a unified approach to moon sighting in the UAE.

## Observation Process

Proceedings will start after the Maghrib prayer, with the committee reviewing reports from observatories and testimonies from across the country. The public is encouraged to report sightings via an online platform, supporting the revival of the traditional practice of moon sighting.

## Official Announcement

Once the committee concludes its review, an official announcement regarding the start of Ramadan will be made through authorized channels.
