## Court Sentences UK Mother for Modern-Day Slavery
A UK court has sentenced Amanda Wixon, a 56-year-old mother of ten, to 13 years in prison for keeping a vulnerable woman as a "house slave" for over 25 years. The victim, who has a learning disability, was subjected to forced labor and abuse at Wixon's home in Gloucestershire.
## Details of the Abuse
The victim, who moved into Wixon's home in 1995 as a teenager, endured regular beatings, deprivation of food and healthcare, and was forced to perform manual labor. Wixon also inflicted physical harm by using a broom handle to beat her, causing severe injuries, including knocking out her teeth.
## Trial and Conviction
During a 13-day trial, the court heard that Wixon, known to the victim as "The Witch," committed multiple offenses, including false imprisonment and modern-day slavery. She was convicted in January of requiring forced labor and assault causing actual bodily harm.
## Victim's Current Situation
The victim now lives with a foster family and is attending college. Despite her traumatic past, she is undergoing therapy and is slowly recovering. Her foster mother revealed that the victim remains terrified of Wixon, especially after a recent accidental encounter in a supermarket.
## Judge's Remarks
Judge Ian Lawrie emphasized the severity of Wixon's crimes, stating that her actions warranted a significant prison sentence. He noted Wixon's persistent denial of the impact of her actions on the victim.
