## Understanding the UAE Visa Grace Period
When a UAE residence visa is cancelled or expires, residents are given a grace period to either leave the country or apply for a new visa. This period varies from 30 days to six months, depending on the visa category.
## How to Check Your Grace Period Online
To find out how long you can stay in the UAE after your visa cancellation, visit the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security's smart services portal. Follow these steps:
1. Go to smartservices.icp.gov.ae. 2. Select 'Public Services' and then 'File Validity'. 3. Choose to search by either file number or passport information. 4. Enter the required details, such as your passport number or Emirates ID. 5. Complete the captcha and click 'Search'.
The system will display the number of days you are allowed to remain in the country.
## Categories with Extended Grace Periods
Certain visa holders benefit from a six-month grace period. These include:
- Golden and Green residency holders and their families - Widows or divorcees of residents - Students who have completed their studies - Skilled professionals in specific categories
During the grace period, individuals can either exit the UAE or apply for a new residency visa.
