## Historic Victory in Bangkok
Payal Nag, an 18-year-old from India, made history by becoming the first limbless archer to win gold at the World Para Archery Series Final in Bangkok. In a thrilling match, she defeated her idol, Sheetal Devi, with a score of 139 to 136.
## Overcoming Adversity
Payal's journey began in Odisha, where a tragic accident at age eight resulted in the loss of all her limbs. Despite this, she found a new path through archery, inspired by a viral video that caught the attention of coach Kuldeep Kumar Vedwan.
## Unique Technique
Unlike other archers, Payal developed a unique shooting technique. She uses a customized prosthetic support to hold the bow and employs her shoulder and mouth to draw and release the arrow.
## A Remarkable Debut
Although this was her first senior international competition, Payal had previously defeated Sheetal at the Para Archery Nationals in Jaipur in 2025. Her victory in Bangkok was a testament to her skill and determination.
## Inspirational Moment
The award ceremony was marked by a touching moment when Sheetal helped move Payal's wheelchair, symbolizing sportsmanship and mutual respect.
## Coach's Role
Coach Kuldeep Kumar Vedwan played a crucial role in Payal's success. His dedication and innovative training methods have been instrumental in shaping both Payal and Sheetal into world-class athletes.
## India's Triumph
India's performance in Bangkok was outstanding, with the team securing seven gold medals and a total of 16 medals. Payal's story is a powerful example of resilience and the ability to overcome seemingly insurmountable challenges.
