The International Astronomy Center has confirmed the sighting of the crescent marking the end of Shaaban 1447 AH in Abu Dhabi. This observation was made by the Khatm Astronomical Observatory using advanced imaging techniques on February 16, 2026, at 08:15 am UAE time.

## Moon's Position and Age

At the time of observation, the moon was 15.7 degrees away from the sun, with an age of negative 33 hours and 37 minutes. These measurements are part of ongoing efforts to enhance the accuracy of lunar calendar calculations.

## Call for Crescent Sighting

The UAE Council for Fatwa has invited residents to observe the Ramadan crescent on February 17, 2026. A committee meeting at Qasr Al Hosn in Abu Dhabi, chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Sheikh Al Mahfouz bin Bayyah, will review the observations after the Maghrib prayer to confirm the start of Ramadan.

## Participation Encouraged

Residents are encouraged to report their sightings through the Council’s online platform, continuing the tradition of moon sighting. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia's Supreme Court has also called for crescent observations on the same evening.
