Fujairah rescues rare Pallid Scops Owl, releases it into Wadi Wurayah National Park

## Rescue and Release of Pallid Scops Owl

A rare Pallid Scops Owl was recently rescued and released by the Fujairah Environment Authority (FEA) in the UAE. The owl was found by a farmworker on agricultural land, who promptly contacted the authorities. The FEA's Terrestrial Biodiversity Team responded quickly, securing the owl and transporting it to the Wadi Wurayah National Park for evaluation.

## Health Assessment and Release

At the park's facility, specialists conducted a thorough medical examination to ensure the owl was healthy. After confirming its good condition, the owl was fitted with an identification band and released back into its natural habitat.

## Importance of the Pallid Scops Owl

The Pallid Scops Owl is native to the UAE and thrives in mountainous and arid regions. It plays a crucial role in controlling insect populations, contributing to the ecological balance. The species is confirmed to breed in Wadi Wurayah National Park, where ongoing monitoring programs track its presence and reproductive activities.

## Conservation Efforts

Since 2019, the FEA has been conducting night-time surveys in the park to monitor owl species. These efforts have confirmed the presence of seven out of nine owl species in the UAE within the park, highlighting its significance as a sanctuary for nocturnal birds.

## Community Involvement

Dr. Ali Al Hamoudi, Director of the Biodiversity and Natural Resources Department at FEA, emphasized the importance of public involvement in wildlife conservation. He encouraged residents to report injured or endangered animals to ensure they receive proper care, reinforcing the community's role as environmental stewards.
