Ask Gulf News: Can buyers cancel contracts for delayed and faulty goods

## Legal Rights for Buyers in the UAE

In the UAE, consumers who face issues with delayed or faulty goods have specific legal rights. If a company fails to deliver goods on time or provides items that do not match the agreed specifications, buyers can cancel the contract, request a refund, and seek compensation for any damages incurred.

## Contractual Obligations

Contracts involving the sale and installation of goods require the supplier to fulfill their obligations as agreed. If they fail to do so, the buyer is entitled to cancel the contract and demand a refund, especially if the buyer does not accept a replacement.

## Legal Provisions

According to Article 272(1) of the UAE Civil Transactions Law, if one party does not fulfill their contractual obligations, the other party can demand performance or cancellation of the contract after notifying the obligor. Additionally, Article 282 states that any harm caused by a breach of contract obligates the responsible party to compensate for the damages.
