## Court Ruling on Medical Negligence
A Dubai court has ordered a doctor and a hospital to pay Dh1.1 million to a man and his two daughters after the death of his wife due to medical negligence. The case involved complications following a gastric sleeve surgery.
## Details of the Case
The woman initially appeared stable post-surgery but returned to the hospital with symptoms of a gastric leak. Despite further medical intervention, her condition worsened over several weeks, leading to her death.
## Findings of Medical Liability
The Higher Committee for Medical Liability reported that the hospital failed to manage the leak effectively, resulting in persistent infection and inflammation. There were also delays in conducting necessary diagnostic procedures and adopting alternative treatments. The patient was not transferred to a specialized facility, which contributed to her deteriorating condition.
## Compensation Awarded
The court awarded Dh100,000 for medical expenses and Dh1 million for moral damages to the family, with an additional 5% interest from the date the ruling becomes final.
