UAE investors pile into gold, oil, leaving crypto behind

## Shift in Investment Preferences

Retail investors in the UAE are increasingly favoring gold and oil over cryptocurrencies due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and market instability. A recent survey by eToro reveals that commodities have become the most popular asset class among local investors, surpassing crypto.

## Commodities Gain Popularity

The survey indicates that 56% of UAE retail investors now hold commodities, up from 47% in August 2025. In contrast, crypto holdings have remained steady at 54%. This shift is largely influenced by current geopolitical developments, with many investors increasing their exposure to precious metals and energy commodities.

## Sector Allocations and Renewables

Investments in energy have risen to 40%, while materials and renewables have also seen increased interest. Notably, 41% of investors plan to boost their exposure to renewables in the coming months, reflecting a focus on both immediate and long-term energy diversification.

## Gold's Dominance

Gold remains a cornerstone in commodity portfolios, held by 88% of investors in this asset class. Nearly half allocate over 20% of their portfolio to gold, oil, silver, and natural gas, indicating strong confidence in these assets.

## Positive Sentiment for Gold and Oil

Investor sentiment is optimistic, with over 90% expecting oil prices to rise in the next six months, and a similar majority anticipating gains in gold. Many believe oil prices could increase by more than 15%, while gold is expected to climb by over 10%.
