Bunk beds onboard Air New Zealand Economy class? It's real and it's here

## New Sleeping Pods for Economy Class

Air New Zealand is set to revolutionize long-haul travel by introducing Economy Skynest bunk bed sleep pods. Starting from May 18, 2026, passengers on ultra-long-haul flights can book these lie-flat sleeping berths.

## Features and Pricing

The Skynest will be available on the airline's new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, entering service in November 2026. Each aircraft will feature six pods located between the economy and premium economy cabins. Passengers can reserve a four-hour session for NZ$495 ($295) in addition to their ticket.

## Enhancing Travel Comfort

This innovation aims to improve comfort on some of the world's longest flights, particularly benefiting routes to and from New Zealand. The initiative is part of Air New Zealand's efforts to make travel more manageable for passengers traveling to the remote country.

## Development and Delays

The concept, developed over three years with customer input, was initially expected to launch in 2024. However, delays in aircraft delivery and certification pushed the rollout to 2026.

## Pod Amenities

Each pod includes a full-length mattress, pillow, sheets, blanket, privacy curtain, lighting, ventilation, USB charging ports, and a crew call button. Bedding will be refreshed between sessions.

## Future Deployment

While specific routes have not been announced, the Skynest is expected to be used on long-haul flights with high demand for in-flight rest. This move aligns with global trends of enhancing passenger comfort and generating additional revenue through premium services.
