## Overview Dubai has unveiled its first air taxi station near Dubai International Airport, a significant step towards launching commercial electric air transport services in the city. The facility was reviewed by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, highlighting the emirate's commitment to sustainable transport solutions.
## Station Features The station covers 3,100 square meters and includes two landing pads, electric aircraft charging facilities, and climate-controlled passenger amenities. It is designed to accommodate up to 170,000 passengers annually, offering a quick travel option across the city.
## Partnerships and Development The project is a collaboration between Skyports Infrastructure and Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA). US-based Joby Aviation is responsible for developing the electric aircraft and will operate the service. The RTA will manage regulation and integration with existing transport systems.
## Testing and Future Plans Joby Aviation has conducted several test flights, including operations in desert conditions, to ensure aircraft performance in high temperatures. The company is working on obtaining regulatory certification in coordination with UAE authorities. The station near the airport is the first of four planned hubs, with additional stations set for Downtown Dubai, Palm Jumeirah, and Dubai Marina.
