## Copper Drives BHP's Profit Growth
Australian mining giant BHP has reported a significant increase in its half-year net profit, largely driven by the rising demand for copper. The company, which claims to be the world's largest copper producer, has increased its output by 30% over the past four years, with major contributions from its Escondida mine in Chile.
## Strategic Growth Plans
BHP's CEO, Mike Henry, highlighted the company's strategic positioning to benefit from the ongoing demand for copper, which is essential for expanding electrical networks and renewable energy projects. The company is exploring growth opportunities in Chile, Argentina, Arizona, and South Australia to capitalize on expected long-term price increases.
## Financial Performance
In the six months leading up to December 31, BHP's revenue rose by 10.8% to $27.9 billion, while net profit surged by 27.7% to $5.64 billion. The firm also achieved record iron ore shipments from Western Australia during this period.
## Economic Outlook
Looking forward, BHP anticipates a 3% growth in the global economy for 2026, with China's economy showing resilience and India continuing to perform strongly. This optimistic economic outlook is expected to support demand for BHP's key commodities.
