## Rising Ship Movements
Recent data indicates a rise in ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage for global oil and gas exports, despite a US naval blockade aimed at Iranian ports. This increase comes amid heightened military tensions in the region.
## Blockade Details
The US naval blockade, initiated on April 13, 2026, restricts ships from entering or leaving Iranian ports. However, vessels traveling to non-Iranian destinations are permitted to pass through the strait. This has allowed some commercial ships to continue their journeys, although overall traffic remains below pre-conflict levels.
## Recent Developments
In the past 24 hours, over 20 ships have reportedly crossed the strait, with some being stopped or rerouted. Tracking data shows that at least eight merchant vessels, including three linked to Iran, attempted passage after the blockade was announced. Since the conflict began in February, 279 vessels have navigated the strait, although this includes periods of reduced activity due to security concerns.
## Strategic Adjustments
Many ships are now using designated routes along the Iranian and Omani coasts to mitigate risks. Despite the blockade, commercial efforts to maintain supply chains continue, reflecting the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz in global trade.
