## Fatal Road Accident in Tamil Nadu

A holiday trip from Kerala ended in tragedy when a van carrying 12 people veered off the Valparai–Pollachi Ghat Road in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore district. The accident, which occurred around 5:15 pm on Friday, resulted in nine fatalities and left four others injured.

## Victims Include Teachers and a Child

The group, hailing from Malappuram district in Kerala, included teachers and staff from government schools in Kuruva. Among the deceased were six teachers, a school cook, a 12-year-old boy, and a relative. The injured, including the driver, were taken to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, with three in critical condition.

## Dangerous Road Conditions

The accident happened as the van reportedly lost control on the 13th hairpin bend of the steep and winding road, which features 40 such bends. The vehicle eventually stopped near the ninth bend. This route is notorious for its challenging terrain and has been the site of previous accidents.

## Investigation Underway

Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, with initial reports suggesting the driver may have lost control while descending the ghat section. Emergency services responded swiftly, with rescue teams from Valparai and Pollachi aiding in the recovery efforts.
