## Early Recognition of Leadership
Recently declassified British documents reveal that Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was identified as a "born leader" from a young age. These records, dating back to the late 1960s, highlight his early involvement in shaping Dubai's future.
## Confidence from His Father
The documents show that Sheikh Mohammed's father, Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, had immense confidence in his son's leadership abilities. This trust was evident when Sheikh Mohammed was just 16, as he was already being groomed for significant responsibilities.
## Role in Defense and Aviation
In 1968, the British Ministry of Defence noted Sheikh Mohammed's potential in enhancing Dubai's defense capabilities. His leadership was further solidified when he became the UAE's first Minister of Defence in 1971, making him the youngest in the world at the time.
Sheikh Mohammed also played a crucial role in the development of Dubai's civil aviation sector. His vision for Dubai International Airport set the stage for the emirate's emergence as a global aviation hub.
## International Recognition
By the early 1970s, British officials were consistently describing Sheikh Mohammed as a "born leader." His ambitious plans for Dubai's infrastructure, particularly in aviation, drew international attention, including from the office of then UK Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.
