Dubai court orders ex-audit director to repay Dh8.6m after misuse of 607 SIM cards

## Court Ruling on SIM Card Misuse

A Dubai civil court has mandated a former internal audit director to repay over Dh8.6 million after being found guilty of embezzling public funds. The ex-director, who worked at a government-owned company, was accused of misusing 607 prepaid SIM cards for unauthorized digital purchases.

## Details of the Fraud

The investigation revealed that the SIM cards, each with a balance of up to Dh950, were used for transactions on platforms like Google Play and Apple Store. The misuse was discovered in September 2024 during a routine audit, which uncovered thousands of unauthorized transactions.

## Financial Scheme Uncovered

Dubai Police investigations showed that nearly 25,000 transactions were made using two mobile applications controlled by the defendant. The funds were funneled through a company he owned overseas and eventually transferred to his personal accounts and those of his associates.

## Legal Consequences

Following his criminal conviction, the civil court confirmed the financial losses caused by the defendant's actions. He was ordered to repay the misappropriated funds, along with interest and legal costs, totaling more than Dh8.6 million.
