RTA opens Hessa Street project, doubling capacity and cutting travel time in Dubai

## Major Infrastructure Upgrade

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated the revamped Hessa Street, a significant infrastructure project designed to alleviate traffic congestion. The development spans 4.5 kilometers between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road, doubling the road's capacity and significantly reducing travel time.

## Enhanced Traffic Flow

The project has expanded Hessa Street from two to four lanes in each direction, increasing the road's capacity from 8,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour. This enhancement has cut travel time along the corridor from 15 minutes to just 4 minutes.

## Strategic Importance

Hessa Street serves as a vital corridor for several densely populated areas, with the surrounding population expected to exceed 640,000 by 2030. The upgrades include improvements to major intersections and the construction of new bridges and ramps, facilitating smoother traffic flow.

## Future Developments

RTA has commenced Phase 2 of the project, extending from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road. This phase will feature additional bridges and a tunnel, aiming to further double capacity and reduce travel time. Once completed, it will benefit around 650,000 residents and accommodate nearly half a million daily trips.
