## Unexpected Archaeological Find
A large granite statue believed to represent Ramses II has been unearthed in Egypt's Sharqia governorate. The discovery occurred during routine excavation work for a facility associated with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
## Historical Significance
The statue, estimated to be over two meters tall and weighing more than five tonnes, is thought to date back to the era of Ramses II, one of ancient Egypt's most notable pharaohs. Experts suggest it may depict the king alongside a deity, reflecting the artistic style of the time.
## Next Steps
The statue has been moved to San al-Hagar for restoration and further examination. This area, near Tell el-Faraoun, is known for its rich archaeological history, including previous discoveries of ancient villages and temples.
