Ramadan 2026: Malaysia confirms first day of holy month

## Crescent Moon Sighting

Malaysia has confirmed that the holy month of Ramadan will commence on Thursday, February 19, 2026. This decision follows the unsuccessful sighting of the crescent moon on Tuesday, which marks the end of the Islamic month of Sha’aban.

## Official Announcement

The announcement was made by Tan Sri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, the Keeper of the Rulers' Seal, after observers were stationed at 29 different locations across the country to look for the crescent moon.

## Regional Confirmation

Brunei also declared Thursday as the start of Ramadan, following their own lunar observations. The confirmation was made by Yang Arif Awang Haji Hassan bin Haji Metali, a High Court Sharia Judge, through Brunei’s official broadcaster, RTB.
