From 15 to 4 minutes: How Hessa Street upgrade cuts travel time from Sheikh Zayed Road to Al Khail Road

## Major Road Upgrade

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a significant upgrade of Hessa Street, drastically reducing travel time between Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road from 15 minutes to just 4 minutes. This 4.5 km project has doubled the road's capacity to accommodate 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions.

## Key Improvements

The project involved expanding Hessa Street from two to four lanes in each direction and redesigning four major intersections to ease traffic flow. A new two-lane ramp was constructed above the Dubai Metro's Red Line, allowing vehicles to bypass traffic signals. Additionally, the existing bridge at First Al Khail Street was widened, and a new bridge was added at Al Asayel Street.

## Community Impact

The upgrade benefits numerous neighborhoods, including Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Village Circle, by reducing congestion and improving connectivity. With the area's population expected to exceed 640,000 by 2030, these enhancements are crucial for accommodating future growth.

## Ongoing Developments

The project is part of a broader strategy to enhance Dubai's infrastructure. Phase two, which will extend improvements from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road, is already underway, promising further enhancements to the region's mobility and connectivity.
