## Rising Threats to Digital Identity
The UAE Cybersecurity Council has issued a warning about the increasing risks of digital identity theft. With the expansion of online data sharing, one in three individuals may be vulnerable to such crimes. The Council emphasizes the importance of protecting digital identities, which include sensitive personal, financial, and health information.
## Impact of Technology on Cybersecurity
The widespread use of artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and cloud applications has made digital identities more susceptible to cyberattacks. Criminals exploit these technologies to commit fraud, impersonate individuals, or sell data illegally. The Council stresses that safeguarding digital identity is essential to prevent privacy breaches and financial losses.
## Increase in Cyberattacks
There has been a 32% rise in cyberattacks targeting digital identities in the first half of the year. The Council recommends using multi-factor authentication (MFA), which can prevent over 99% of identity-based attacks. It also advises against sharing sensitive information and encourages the use of strong, unique passwords.
## Social Media Vulnerabilities
The Council reports that 40% of social media users in the UAE have experienced hacking incidents after sharing personal data. It highlights that 97% of cyberattacks involve passwords, making robust credentials crucial for protection.
## Public Awareness and Safety Measures
The Council urges the public to be cautious when sharing personal information online and to adopt safe digital practices. This includes securing accounts, avoiding suspicious links, and regularly updating systems. Awareness and responsible behavior are key to protecting digital identities from cyber threats.
