DECCA, Silal sign agreement to boost Dubai food security

## New Partnership for Food Security

The Dubai Environment and Climate Change Authority (DECCA) has entered into a strategic partnership with Silal to bolster food security in Dubai. This collaboration was formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed during the Emirates Agriculture Conference and Exhibition 2026 in Al Ain.

## Focus on Sustainable Practices

The agreement aims to enhance local food production by integrating sustainable and technology-driven farming practices. It seeks to support local farmers, improve the competitiveness of domestic produce, and ensure a steady supply of food across the emirate.

## Key Objectives

The partnership will focus on several key areas, including expanding sustainable food production, diversifying food sources, and reducing food waste. It also aims to promote Emirati products within the national food basket.

## Collaborative Efforts

Ahmad Mohammad Bin Thani, Director General of DECCA, emphasized that the partnership aligns with national food security priorities. By combining DECCA’s regulatory expertise with Silal’s operational capabilities, the collaboration aims to create a more resilient food system.

Dhafer Al Qasimi, Group CEO of Silal, highlighted that the agreement will enhance support for farmers throughout the agri-food value chain. Silal plans to leverage its sourcing, logistics, and distribution networks to improve market access for locally grown produce.

## Long-term Strategy

This initiative is part of DECCA’s broader strategy to engage with both public and private stakeholders to achieve long-term food security goals in Dubai and the UAE.
