## New Fishing Regulations
Abu Dhabi has introduced updated fishing regulations to enhance sustainability and boost local fish supply. The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) is implementing two new ministerial decisions to adjust fishing practices in the emirate.
## Temporary Measures
The new rules, effective for 2026, include Ministerial Resolution No. 74, which lifts previous restrictions on fishing certain species during their breeding season. Additionally, Resolution No. 75 permits the fishing and sale of "Badah" fish on a temporary basis, with regular reviews based on scientific data.
## Balancing Supply and Sustainability
These changes follow positive trends in fish stock levels, as indicated by recent studies. The aim is to support local fishermen and increase fish availability in markets while ensuring marine resource protection. Authorities emphasize the importance of balancing economic activities with conservation efforts.
## Compliance and Monitoring
EAD will continue to oversee fishing activities to ensure adherence to regulations. Fishermen and stakeholders are encouraged to cooperate with authorities to maintain sustainable practices. Previous similar measures, such as the 2021 decision allowing limited Badah fishing, have been implemented to support both economic and environmental goals.
## Future Outlook
The agency plans to keep updating policies based on scientific research to support the fishing sector and long-term sustainability. Protecting marine resources is a collective responsibility, requiring collaboration among government bodies, fishermen, and the community.
