## Visit to Al Barakah Dates Factory
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, recently toured Al Barakah Dates Factory in Dubai. This facility, recognized as the largest privately owned dates factory globally, spans over 800,000 square feet and is situated in Dubai Industrial City.
## Production and Export
The factory boasts an impressive annual production capacity of 100,000 tonnes, with its products reaching 97 countries worldwide. The United States is a leading market for its processed date products, followed by the UK and EU countries. Packaged dates are also popular in Bangladesh, India, and Indonesia.
## Focus on Innovation and Heritage
Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the UAE's commitment to innovation in the food sector, aiming to enhance global competitiveness through advanced technologies and efficient production. He highlighted the dates industry as a prime example of transforming agricultural heritage into a modern economic sector, contributing to food security and economic growth.
## Humanitarian and Economic Initiatives
The visit also underscored the UAE's humanitarian efforts related to food production, including initiatives to combat malnutrition globally. The factory's founder, Salim Mohammed, and director, Yousef Salim Mohammed, provided insights into the production processes, including the creation of derivative products like date syrup and paste.
## Strategic Location and Industrial Growth
Dubai Industrial City, where the factory is located, plays a crucial role in supporting manufacturing and supply chains. Established in 2004, it hosts over 350 factories and employs more than 17,000 people. Its strategic location near major transport hubs facilitates access to regional and global markets, aiding manufacturers in scaling operations.
