Man wakes after 40 hours with no heartbeat in medical miracle

## Medical Miracle in China

In a remarkable medical event, a man in eastern China was revived after living for over 40 hours without an independent heartbeat. This extraordinary case has highlighted the capabilities of modern life-support technology.

## Advanced Life Support

The patient, in his 40s, was admitted to the hospital with chest tightness and breathing difficulties. He suffered cardiac and respiratory arrest, and despite multiple defibrillation attempts, his heart did not resume normal function. Doctors turned to extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a sophisticated system that temporarily takes over heart and lung functions, to keep him alive.

## Successful Recovery

Alongside ECMO, an intra-aortic balloon pump was used to improve blood flow. After more than 40 hours, the man's heart began beating on its own. He was eventually weaned off ECMO and, three weeks later, left the hospital fully conscious and without major neurological damage.

## Rare Condition

The patient was diagnosed with fulminant myocarditis, a severe inflammation of the heart muscle that can lead to rapid heart failure. Quick intervention is crucial, as the condition can worsen rapidly. The successful recovery after such prolonged mechanical support is considered exceptionally rare in emergency medicine.
