DEWA sets world record as Dubai power outages drop to 49 seconds a year

## Record-Breaking Achievement

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has set a new world record by reducing power outages to just 49 seconds per year. This achievement surpasses their previous record of 0.94 minutes set in 2024, marking a 13% improvement.

## Smart Grid Innovations

The success is attributed to DEWA's Smart Grid programme, which has received AED 7 billion in investments through 2035. This initiative enhances the energy transmission and distribution network, significantly cutting outages and optimizing load management.

## Advanced Technology

A key component of this progress is the Automatic Smart Grid Restoration System, a first in the Middle East and North Africa. This system operates without human intervention, using intelligent platforms to monitor and resolve faults quickly.

## Global Leadership

Dubai's Customer Minutes Lost (CML) has dramatically decreased from 6.88 minutes in 2012 to 0.82 minutes in 2025, outperforming the European Union average of 15 minutes. This positions Dubai as a leader in global utility performance.
