Dubai airline refund rules: How to get your money back

## New Aviation Consumer Welfare Directive

Dubai has implemented a new set of rules to protect airline passengers, known as the Aviation Consumer Welfare Directive. This framework outlines the rights and responsibilities of passengers, airlines, and travel agents operating through Dubai.

## Key Passenger Rights

Passengers are entitled to clear information when purchasing tickets, including total costs, terms and conditions, and baggage rules. Airlines must also inform passengers about any stopovers or connections.

## Handling Flight Delays and Disruptions

In the event of flight delays, airlines are required to communicate promptly about the nature and expected duration of the disruption. Passengers should be offered options such as rebooking on the next available flight, rerouting with another airline, or receiving a refund.

## Support During Extended Delays

For delays exceeding three to eight hours, airlines must provide meals, communication access, and hotel accommodation if necessary. Special attention is given to vulnerable passengers, including those with special needs and unaccompanied minors.

## Travel Agent Responsibilities

Licensed travel agents must ensure that services are delivered as promised or arrange alternatives if disruptions occur.

## Force Majeure Events

In cases of disruptions due to uncontrollable events like severe weather or strikes, airlines are not required to compensate but must still provide care and assistance for up to 72 hours.
